Summer Litter Picking etc

Summer Litter Picking etc

SusWoT has not done any litter picking since February. It was intended to take part in the Great British Spring Clean but this was cancelled. With the easing of the lockdown regular cleaning activities, with appropriate caution, can start at the beginning of July. The objectives are:

  • To encourage people to get involved in improving their local environment
  • To keep Westbury-on-Trym clean
  • To continue to improve the river Trym catchment area
  • To support other groups wishing to clean up places in or near Westbury-on-Trym and the local river system
Litter from the Trym Valley, Southmead collected just before lockdown

The pandemic means activities will be organised in different ways. SusWoT will be ensuring that best practice is followed. Previously monthly litter picks involved up to 20 people. For the foreseeable future activites will be organised in small groups but much more frequently. Each session will be completed within two hours and will take place at various times of day, seven days a week, depending on numbers.

The following activities will be organised through the summer:

  • Litter picking in Westbury-on-Trym
  • Balsam bashing along the Trym
  • Clearing litter from parks including Blaise
  • Clearing rubbish from the river Trym and Hazel Brook
  • Providing support for activities organised by groups near Westbury-on-Trym
